Musicians raise roof

Headington’s Music Department has been very busy lately with a flurry of performances and a visit from a musical Headingtonian.

On 11th February, the Celebration of Strings and Harp was a feast of solos, trios, quartets and full string ensembles.

The concert began with a beautifully dynamic folk song arrangement performed on hammered dulcimer and harps and finished with a stunning rendition of Britten’s ‘Simple Symphony’ with the full string orchestra. The performances demonstrated the truly outstanding quality of string and harp playing that takes place at the school every week.

Another fantastic Jazz Cakes concert was held on the 12th February, featuring music from the jazz and contemporary singers and musicians. The Jazz Cakes concert took place within 24 hours of the Celebration of Strings concert, demonstrating the huge variety and abundance of music-making that takes place at Headington School.

Headingtonian Indi Brodley visited the Music Department on 13th February to view the plaque which has been put up next to the studio where she worked so hard on her Music Technology A Level, when at Headington School. Indi, who left Headington in 2013, is now self-employed, working as a successful music studio engineer and production manager.

Mr Tom Anderson, acting Head of Music said: “It is lovely to see alumnae inspiring the younger students at the school with their success stories.”

The latter will feature a variety of classic opera pieces, along with other beautiful classical music.
