Hockey 2nd XI take on County Plate

On Wednesday 10th November, the 2nd XI headed to the County Plate Competition.

This was the first time Headington has entered a 2nd XI into this competition which provided a wonderful chance for the team to gain match experience and put their skills learnt in training throughout the term so far into practice.

The opening match against a strong Tudor Hall side was well defended by the squad, but ended with a narrow loss. The defence was similarly strong, maintaining good composure but the game ended in a second narrow loss, this time to Magdalen College School, but the team focussed hard on marking players tightly and moving the ball upfield.

After a sandwich-less lunch break, we came back revived for a wonderful performance against the strongest side of the day, St Edward’s, although ending in a loss. The team stepped it up a gear in taking attacking opportunities and showed massively increased confidence in making passes and using skills.

Going into the final match of the day the team stepped it up a gear which ended positively with a win against Oxford High School. The team maintained a high level of intensity and moved the ball well to collect two spectacular goals from Floss and Evie. The whole day was a great experience and enjoyed by all involved. The growth of trust and confidence within the squad was evident and set a precedent for many more successes in the future!
